MIT invention responds to user's spoken command

MIT researchers are developing a new kind of autonomous wheelchair that can learn all about the locations in a given building, and then take its occupant to a given place in response to a verbal command.

Just by saying "take me to the cafeteria" or "go to my room," the wheelchair user would be able to avoid the need for controlling every twist and turn of the route and could simply sit back and relax as the chair moves from one place to another based on a map stored in its memory.

unlike other attempts to program wheelchairs or other mobile devices, which rely on an intensive process of manually capturing a detailed map of a building, the MIT system can learn about its environment in much the same way as a person would: By being taken around once

It’s very challenging to come up with a solution to help people who suffer from diabetes to have better quality of life.

DibKit diabetes management system consists of DibKit Meter, DibKit Pen and DibKit Pump which together they provide fewer, smarter and more effective diabetes supplies.

a) The dibkit Meter is the first glucometer to integrate a lancing device and replaceable test strip cartridge. The device makes logging meals easy with barcode scan and photo-recognition. Data is constantly being captured and sent wirelessly via the dibkit cloud so it can be accessed by care providers and patients.

b) The dibkit Pen is a compact, digital device, which automatically communicates insulin dosage to the dibkit Meter. Unlike current insulin pens that are disposed after each use, the dibkit Pen’s main body and cap are reusable and only the insulin cartridges are disposable. c) The dibkit Pump is the most compact, unobtrusive, wearable option for receiving insulin, and is wirelessly controlled by the dibkit Meter. The pump is single use and can be worn for three days, with the low profile and flexible material allowing the pump to form smoothly against the contours of the body for a comfortable fit.

Medicine pill bottle for the blind and visually impaired – an innovation that could benefit millions of users.    it’s easy to see that University of Cincinnati design students Alex Broerman and Ashley Ma are on to something with their new design and prototype for a prescription-medicine pill bottle that better serves the needs of the blind and visually impaired by means of a simple and inexpensive innovation.   

• A lid on “hinges” that flips open, as lost caps are a problem for the visually impaired. And twist caps can be a challenge for the elderly. (At the same time, the students’ flip lid is child proof.)

•  A small rectangular bottle body, 2-by-2 inches wide and 3-inches tall, that allows a user to easily reach in and pick out a pill or two without the need to pour out a larger supply into the palm for subsequent selection of the required dosage. In addition, this “stout” design prevents the bottle from tipping over and spilling the medication.

•  A distinct texture on the bottle’s flip lid. There are eight distinct textures available. Each distinct texture would correspond with a different medication. Importantly, the distinct textures are not Braille, as only 10 percent of the blind and visually impaired can read Braille.

•  The lid would also sport a dramatic, deep color – different medication differentiated by a different-colored lid. The reason for this is that many visually impaired individuals do have limited sight, such that they can make out a strong color that is close to the eye.

•  A “fail-safe” audio button on the lid could be pressed for an audio statement on the medicinal contents.

9. VENA MINDER

 Soon, there’s no need for a hospital visit in order to record patient’s data. Cambridge Consultants have designed a pocket size device called The Minder that can reduce recovery times and hospital visits. 

The firm has announced this new product concept based on its low-cost Continua-compliant Vena platform. The Minder, powered by Vena (people also call it Vena Minder), allows continuous, real-time medical data collection and transmission via cellular networks. This way, this unit provides new technology solution that can lower the cost of healthcare by improving the quality of patient care.

Doubling as a pocket-sized digital patient checklist, Minder is a sophisticated gateway that captures wireless medical data and transmits it to a patient’s online health record, creating higher volume and higher quality data for Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Moreover, Minder can receive real time updates to the checklist thereby enabling two way communications with healthcare professionals or caregivers, enabling more meaningful use of e-health records.

10.      PREGNANCY PILLOWS – ENGINEERED FOR EXPECTANT MOMS

Pregnancy pillows, like the Boppy Total Body Pillow and the Comfort-U Body pillow, have to be engineered for the unique body shapes of expectant mothers. They do this through shapes and designs that try to maximize the comfort of the expectant mother. 

 The design allows it to fit under her head for excellent neck support while also being able to wrap around her back or stomach and between her legs.

The engineering of this pillow takes into consideration that many expectant mothers tend to toss and turn, and its shorter-than-average length allows it to be easily repositioned. The between-leg support is an especially important design as the pregnancy progresses and the hips and lower back need additional support to stay in alignment.

.

This pillow features a U design with arms that extend a full 5 feet, four inches long on both sides to allow complete front and back support. This full body design supports head, neck, back, tummy and legs all at the same time, so there is no choosing which area to support while leaving others without support.

 

.Unlike other pillows, the Comfort-U is able to stay in place when the expectant mother moves from one side to the other, without having to adjust the pillow with each move.

1.Peranan yang di mainkan oleh pihak kerajaan akan sentiasa membantu golongan -golongan pemangkin negara ini untuk maju seperti dengan memperkenalkan pelan jalur lebar kebangsaan telah membolehkan kadar celik internet meningkat tahun demi tahun.

2.Langkah kerajaan membestarikan semua sekolah dengan menyediakan pelbagai kemudahan dapat memberi pendedahan awal di sekolah dan ianya amat penting agar generasi akan datang dapat mengharungi cabaran modenisasi.

3.Peranan yang di mainkan oleh pihak pengajar di sekolah iaitu denan memberi galakkan dan merancang sebarang aktiviti pembelajaran yang menggunakan ICT untuk memastikan aktiviti yang di laksanakan memberi input yang baik kepada pelajar.

4.Peranan yang di mainkan oleh ibubapa juga amat penting dengan memberikan galakkan dan pendedahan awal kepada anak-anak merka di rumah dalam penggunaan IT .

5.Peranan yang di mainkan oleh golongan muda itu sendiri penting iaitu mereka juga perlu berani untuk menyerap perubahan dan berdaya tahan tinggi di dalam mengharungi dunia yang serba moden.
